“The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely.”
Self-acceptance is hard; I will be the first to admit that. It is definitely terrifying. But that doesn’t mean we can’t try our best every day to work toward accepting ourselves completely. One thing I saw to help with self esteem was to write down 50 different things you like about yourself, then write them again on notecards, 5 on each, so that you have 10 notecards. Then, everyday, read those notecards, and shuffle them every day so you read a new order every day. Eventually, you will learn to love those things you wrote down. It is definitely a challenge to learn to love things about you that you may think are not such good qualities. But you know who has no problem loving everything about you? God. He loves every flaw, every scar, every curve; everything you hate about yourself He loves. So next time you feel yourself failing to accept yourself, know that you are created in God’s image and likeness, and if that isn’t enough to help you realize how special and full of worth you are, I don’t know what is.
