“Don’t count the days, make the days count.”
Oftentimes, I find myself counting days. Days until Thanksgiving break; days until Christmas; days until I see my friends for the first time in over 3 months. Although its a good reminder that those events are coming up soon, it also means that I’m just living each day so I can get to the next one and be one day closer to the next event. Also, I am often rushing throughout my day, walking quickly through the cold to get to the caf, walking quickly to class, even walking quickly to Mass on Sunday nights because to me I need to get to the next activity I am involved in so I don’t waste time. I never take time to slow down and take a second to look around at God’s great creation. However, every once in a while, when the sun sets, I’ll stop in my tracks because sunsets here on campus are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. But other than that, I am constantly on my toes rushing from one thing to the other. Even though I will continue to count the days, I’m going to start taking my time walking to where I need to go. Baby steps. Hopefully it will help remind me to slow down every day. Take a break today and go for a walk and appreciate the world around you.
